    Open Book Cape Town Literary Festival (Bo Kaap)

    With 150 events over five days at different interesting venues throughout the City ofCape Town, the Open Book Festival features readings from around 100 authors, of which 25 are top international writers. The Open Book Cape Town Literary Festival promises to be the biggest Boekjol Cape Town has ever seen.

    And if not, be sure to take a look at other events such as author dinners or writer sports where the Open Book Festival will turn writing into a new Olympic game. The Events will run in several locations in Cape Town’s ‘Fringe’ district. The Fugard Theatre is the hub and will be used extensively for events.     Cape Town Marathon (Cape Town Central)

    The Cape Town Marathon is a race with a fast and flat route that will allow both first time and experienced runners the opportunity to challenge themselves on an epic route that will travel runners passed the mountains, blue ocean and major Cape Town attractions.

    An early morning start at 06h30 from Adderly Street, will set off hundreds of enthusiastic runners, down pastRondebosch before returning to the city and taking in the fresh air around the V&A Waterfront, Sea Point and the Green PointCommon to finally finish in Vlei Road. On completing this race, you will automatically quality for the 2014 Comrades and Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon where you can yet again brave another tough but exciting race!

    Cape Town International Boat Show (Cape Town Central)

    The Cape Town International Boat Show at the Cape Town International Convention Centre and this year will include an exciting events and hospitality programme extending to S.A.’s No. 1 Tourist destination, the V&A Waterfront, against the backdrop of one of the Natural Wonders of the World, Table Mountain.

    More than just a boat show, this year’s event will capture the imagination of the whole family from the showcasing of exotic boats, the best the boat building industry has on offer to the widest diversity of boating related products and technology available. Designed to attract both local and international visitors, exciting events, demonstrations and competitions with fabulous prizes are planned for both the CTICC and at the V&A Waterfront.

    CTIBS will present the biggest wakeboarding competition South Africa has ever staged, along with talks on a diversity of topics geared to appeal to all sailing, fishing, boating and water sports enthusiasts. These talks include Safety at Sea; enthralling stories of the adventurous life at sea of the long haul sailor; “long” fishing tails and ‘Women on the Water’ (programme of times available on the CTIBS website or at the show). Another popular attraction is the Fishing Village at the CTICC where one can compete for prizes including fishing rods, tackle and lures.

    Entrance fee is a includes transport and entry to all Boat Show related events. Scholars will receive free entry and Yacht and Boat Club members receive a 50% discount on presentation of a valid membership card. A bonus for families is that there is no charge for children (ages or terms and conditions apply) Whether you are a boat owner or simply enjoy anything about Cape Town and the water, this is an opportunity to attend one of Cape Town’s and South Africa’s great events – Don’t Miss The Boat show!

    International Oriental Dance Festival (Cape Town Central)

    This is a charity event in aid of the Saartjie Baartman Centre for (abused) Women and Children, organised by Ajsa Samia and the Oriental Dance Theatre Palace of Winds.

    Performers, both local and international, will perform on different dates and at different venues in Cape Town, and will feed your senses with the most beautiful kind of dance you’ve ever seen! You don’t want to miss out on the opportunity to learn the world of dance.

    There will also be a Bazaar where you can buy dancing accessories, jewellers, costumes, food and many more presented by small businesses from South Africa.

    Tri-Robben Island (Cape Town Central)

    On the 1st November 2014, Robben Island will host the historic TriRock Robben Island triathlon.

    Tri-Robben Island offers athletes a truly historical and prestigious experience as they spend a day on the island where Madiba spent much of his time in prison.

    Tri-Robben Island will be an experience comprising of two races. (“4:14:4”) A 400m swim, 14km cycle and 4km run and (“8:28:8”) an 800m swim, 28km cycle and 8km run. Each race will include a swim in the harbour, a cycle and a run that will take athletes passed various landmarks on the island, such as the Robben Island Prison, the Lighthouse and the famous WW2 cannon. An added bonus includes local music throughout the day.

    Cape Town International Kite Festival (Muizenberg)

    Lets go Fly a Kite …

    ‘All about ability’ is the theme for the 18th Cape Town International Kite Festival, which is happening on 1st and 2nd November in Muizenberg and is proudly hosted by Cape Mental Health.

    This is Africa’s biggest kite festival and attracts over 20,000 visitors, including some of the biggest names in kiting inSouth Africa and the world who fly in to show off their magnificent kite creations.

    With kite-making, kite-flying, food stalls, kiddies’ rides, a full programme of entertainment and an eclectic craft market, this is family entertainment at its best. The Cape Town International Kite Festival will be open from 10:00 to 18:00 each day and takes place on the lawns surrounding Zandvlei, Muizenberg. There is lots of parking and easy access by train (False Bay or Muizenberg stations). Entry is just R20 for adults and R10 for children.

    More and more people are suffering from stress and mental ill-health,” said Ingrid Daniels, Director of Cape Mental health. “By inviting people to fly their kites, and highlighting the connection between physical and mental well-being, we hope to uplift minds and bodies”.

    Discovery Cape Times Big Walk (Mowbray)

    South Africa’s oldest and Cape Towns’ largest mass participation sporting event

    The Discovery Cape Times Big Walk is back for another step in the right direction.
    For many years the walk has encouraged thousands of people to walk for the good of others, and to do something enriching and refreshing for themselves, physically and emotionally.

    With distances ranging from 5km to 80km, there is a walk for everyone, whether you’re experienced, new to the sport or simply in it for the fun and good doing. Coca Cola, Powerade and Water stations are set up to keep you fresh and hydrated, while First Aid facilities will be available throughout the route.

    Beneficiaries of the event include CANSA, Steenberg Foundation and Nazareth House. Let your friends and family in on the fun and start preparing for one of the biggest events in Cape Town. Walk, walk, walk!

    Bierfest Cape Town (Newlands)

    Bierfest in South Africa! More than 200 years old and attracting over five million people from around the globe to Germany each year, the annual Oktoberfest in Munich has been a defining part of Bavarian culture and has grown to become the world’s largest festival.

    Closely resembling the Oktoberfest in Munich, Bierfest in Cape Town promises to be an authentic Bavarian Brauhaus festival, complete with ba limited edition beers brewed exclusively for the event, German food and even Oompah bands!

    A concert being held at the Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens on new year’s eve is the best place to be to enter 2015. The Concert will bring two of South Africa’s best known performers with Arno Carstens opening and  Mango Grove as the headline act and all this will be taking place on Wednesday 31 December 2014.

    Mango Groove and lead singer Claire Johnston have a career that spanned a turbulent time in South Africa’s history. Their first single went multi platinum in 1989 and they have since become a household name in this country. Their electic music can be described as South African pop.

    SA rock legend Arno Carsten, lead singer of Springbok Nude Girls and solo artists has had over 20 top ten singles, won 5 SAMA Awards and shared the stage with legends of the music words including 20 top ten singles, won 5 SAMA Awards and shared the stage with legents of the music world including U2, The Rolling Stones and REM.

    This concert is a picnic style concert, so bring a blanket and a picnic basket, and your friends and family.
